Average rank

Average rank is the mean position of a brand among the brands named in the sampled AI answers that mention it. An average rank of 1.4 means the brand is usually the first name in the answer; an average rank of 3.8 means it is usually mentioned late, after several competitors.

Why position matters

A generated answer reads like a recommendation, and the first name carries most of the weight. Two brands with the same visibility rate can have very different outcomes if one is consistently named first and the other consistently last.

Read it with first-mention rate

Average rank is computed only over the answers where the brand appears, so it says nothing about how often the brand is absent. First-mention rate and visibility rate fill that gap.
