1) Write the questions
Use 15 to 25 questions a buyer asks before they choose. The wizard proposes a first set from your URL.
A search page shows ten links and lets the buyer choose. An answer engine reads the sources, picks a few brands and writes one reply. CitePrism asks seven answer engines the questions your buyers ask, records whether your brand is named, keeps the sources behind each answer, and points at the prompts where you lose.
With one reply on screen, a brand that is not named gets no click and no consideration. AEO work starts with three facts per question: are you in the answer, what did the engine read, and who took your place.
Visibility rate is the share of sampled answers that name you. Below 10 answers the metric greys out, because a few replies prove nothing.
Each answer keeps its cited sources. A review site that appears again and again is a place to earn a listing.
Gaps lists the prompts where a rival is named and you are not, so you know which questions to fix first.
How it works
Use 15 to 25 questions a buyer asks before they choose. The wizard proposes a first set from your URL.
Each run asks every engine the same questions and stores every answer with its sources.
Improve the pages and listings the engines cite for your weakest prompts, then watch those prompts.
No. Conversations with an answer engine are private, and no tool can read them. CitePrism measures by sampling: it asks each engine your category questions many times on a schedule and analyzes the replies. Answers vary between runs, so the result is a rate over many answers, not a copy of any one screen.
Mostly in name. Answer engine optimization and generative engine optimization both describe the work of getting AI engines to name and cite your brand. Some people use AEO for engines that give one direct answer and GEO for longer generated replies, but the tracking and the work are the same. The CitePrism glossary defines both terms.
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot, on every plan. Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and Copilot have no API, so CitePrism reads the answer the product shows. The others run through their APIs.
On Free you bring your own keys. Model keys run the API engines, and you pay the model providers directly: about $0.046 per prompt across the four API engines, measured August 2026. Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and Copilot have no API, so on Free they need your own key for reading the answers, which its provider prices per request. A daily spend cap is enforced in the app. Pro is $29 a month or $299 a year, with a 7 day trial, and runs on CitePrism keys with a daily included usage amount.
